«lodestar»

«lodestar» is a Free Company formed by Einar Howl in the 6th Astral Era, originally sworn to the Immortal Flames. At the dawn of the 7th Astral Era, the company was remade and leadership passed down to Lunya Lanya, and with the new leadership came a change in allegiance to the Maelstrom. By nature of having so many Warriors of Light in its ranks, however, «lode» is technically neutral and not expected to comply to Maelstrom orders.Today, «lode» is comprised of fourteen Warriors of Light and several more adventurers. Their base of operations is an estate in the Lavender Beds, owned personally by Lunya and run by her fleet of retainers in her absence. The mansion is large enough that Lunya welcomes her adventurer friends to live in it when they need to.

«balefire» is an informal alliance between «lode», «audeo», «avant», and adventurers like Reese and Rjoli.Each Warrior of Light is an indomitable force on their own, but united none may stand against their tide. A Warrior of Light who disappeared from Carteneau—one of the Twelvesblades. Adopted by a wealthy Elezen family as an infant and raised in Old Sharlayan, Fleuriri has no emotional connection to Eorzea, so why did they leave their homeland?The Historias have long observed the rest of the world as beneath them, and it was on a whim that they plucked Fleuriri from their birth parents in their little Dravanian fishing village, wanting to see if they could extract the "barbarian" from children born outside of the motherland. Fleuriri, when not trapped in the manor library for intense studying sessions, was largely neglected. As such, they grew up distant and apathetic, never speaking out of line but never putting more effort than they needed to into anything. It was their sole love for Nymian history that made them pack up their tomes and steal away in the dead of the night, eschewing their family name and status for the only thing they ever felt anything like emotion for.They would have been content sleeping in their tent for the rest of their days had a not-yet-battle-hardened Einar Howl literally tripped onto said tent, nearly crushing them inside. His mission to track down Louisoix Leveilleur intrigued them, and within the hour they found themself on the road with him, the floating ruins of Nym growing fainter in the distance as their fates started to entwine.As of post-Endwalker, Fleuriri has decided to remain in Sharlayan and work on an Archon Thesis. They have no contact with the Historias and dorm in the Baldesion Annex, from where they write both their paper and letters to their birth parents.The Warrior of Light with the most cramped handwriting. What lies in their soul is fortitude.

Defrosting Ice Queen. Initially distant and hard to get a reaction out of, Fleuriri eventually finds it easier to laugh and smile. Though they meet the others in Heavensward and only reluctantly provides them aid because of Einar, by Shadowbringers Fleuriri's grown snarky and warmer in nature. It's still rather subtle to outsiders.Stop cold in your tracks. Arguing with this Lalafell is like trying to win a fistfight with a brick wall. Fleuriri uses logic and facts better than anyone around for malms and malms, though it's a detriment as much as it is a benefit when it comes to emotionally sensitive issues.Brutally honest. Fleuriri wouldn't know how to lie even if they wanted to. White lies are considered beneath the Historia family, and Fleuriri learned early on to never lie to their adopted parents.Should-have-beens. If Fleuriri was more noticable in Sharlayan society and if their parents hadn't completely scrubbed their existence clean from records after they left for Eorzea, their research would have lead them on the path to becoming an Archon.

Tunnel vision. Fleuriri doesn't know how to do things casually. Be it their research on Nym or even helping out with some odd job around the Rising Stones, they go 100% into whatever they do.Quiet in the library. An introvert through and through, Fleuriri prefers as much silence as possible and usually has to be coaxed into staying for louder gatherings. They're also not entirely fond of sharing their workspace in libraries with anyone but Einar or Duscha.Sweet, but doesn't know how to show it. Fleuriri thinks very hard about how to interact with their companions and their earnest desire to do good may not show in their expressions but is clear in how they try to do little things for others.Hard to surprise. Pranks and spooky mansions do little to their resolve. Amusingly, others have used this to their advantage by making them walk first into clearly haunted locations despite being the smallest and most likely to tire out first.No sense of identity. What defines Fleuriri for the longest time is that they don't define themselves at all. They floated through their whole life knowing they were simply an object of amusement for their parents and never really felt like a person. Part of their journey in studying Nym, the first thing they ever felt a real connection to, was meant to undo the neglect that led to this.

Appearance


- Height: Average for Lalafell at 3'1.- Physique: Thinner than other Lalafell her age—she has Elezen ancestry on her father's side, and though Sharlayan food is perfectly balanced in nutrients, Fleuriri often abandoned meals to study and still tends to forget to eat to this day. Due to her lack of exercise and placement on the backlines, Fleuriri is also the physically weakest member of «lode» and would probably crumple if you threw a ball of paper at her.- Features: Has a sprite-like face, not quite hitting the right notes for "cherubic" or "dainty." She'd never describe herself as anything close to cute. Her chin is much more narrow than typical for Lalafell.- Hair: Thin and straight as a pin with messy bangs. It's cornsilk in colour and ends in teal streaks. For many years, she kept her hair tied in pigtails with ribbons gifted from Einar, but one of those pigtails was shot off in the Ghimlyt Dark. They grew their hair out after Endwalker and wear it in a ponytail now.- Eyes: Champagne-coloured and heavy lidded, with short eyelashes and a small heaping of disinterest. There are frequently dark circles beneath her eyes from squinting at tomes in candlelight.

- Voice: Low and soft. Speaks clearly and carefully enunciated. In spite of her detached nature, people note that it's actually a rather soothing sound, like a consistent background speaker. She doesn't use contractions and has the polished vocabulary of a true scholar.- Other: There's a strange tattoo on her back and a small divet on the top of her left ear where a bullet just barely grazed it. Her hands always have more than a few papercuts, and at any given moment you'll find her with at least four of her fingers wrapped in bandages.- Body Language: Thin smiles, cold stares, a quirk of an eyebrow, standing straight, still hands. These days, her stance has gotten a little looser and laidback, and genuine smiles are coming a little easier to her, though she still comes off as dignified and serious.- Style: High collars and layered shirts, coats, vests. Skorts, leather boots or sandals. Metal pins and dangling ribbons.

- Shell Earring: One of Fleuriri's few prized possessions, this earring is half of a pair that belonged to her birth mother.

- NYMIAN ARCANIMA: [★★★★★] Fleuriri's primary school of magic, and enhanced through the teachings of the Nymian Marines by Surito Carito. Fleuriri's healing feels like being dunked into a frozen lake, but its not entirely unpleasant and it doesn't hurt so much as it jolts you back from the brink.
- THAUMATURGY: [★★★☆☆] Prior to picking up arcanima, Fleuriri practiced Sharlayan thaumaturgy. It was her main school of magic upon coming to Eorzea and joining the Twelvesblades.

- They have no strong feelings about food and don't have a favourite. Because of how poor the food was when they lived in Sharlayan, their sense of taste isn't very strong to begin with.

Fleur is the French word for “flower.” Fleurette is “small flower.” Fleuriri Fleuri follows Plainsfolk female naming schemes - ABB AB. Her birthname Fariri also follows this scheme, and rhymes with "fairy."Her adopted family’s name, Historia, simply means “history.”

Family

- **Pixixi Pixi** ** (biological mother):** Fleuriri's birth mother is a humble painter from Doma. A gentle and clever woman with untapped magical potential who just wants to live a simple life with her husband.
- **Atio Halatio **** (biological father):** Fleuriri's birth father is a potter. An awkward but warm man who planted flowers in their family's garden every year on the day she was born. His grandparents were Ishgardian and left for the Dravanian coast when Atio's mother was born.
- **Aloisanne Historia ** (adoptive mother, estranged): A cold, detached woman who spends most of her waking moments filled with disdain for non-Sharlayans. She specializes in aetherology, but rather than doing fieldwork herself she just pays other people to do it for her.
- **Pierroux Historia** ** (adoptive father, estranged):** A staunchly conservative member of the Bibliothecs. It's a common rumor that he and Aloisanne married not for love but practicality for their work. Looking at how coldly they interact with each other, it's probably true.

- Einar Howl: Fleuriri's first friend and therefore her best friend. It was Einar who taught her how to care for others and to see more than what's in front of her.
- Mimi Romantica: Mimi and Fleuriri actually get along very well, both being people with low empathy and one person they really, really care about. Fleuriri's more proactive about learning compassion, but Mimi offers her silent support in what ways she can.
- Nyneve Pond: Nyneve and Fleuriri's scholarly focuses overlapped during their shared time at the Studium. As such, the two are familiar with each other, but if you looked at them talking you might get the impression that Fleuriri doesn't like Nyneve (which isn't entirely true: Fleuriri just gets exhausted by Nyneve's boundless energy very fast.)
- Duscha Vesnasch: Though they don't have an emotional connection like Fleuriri has with Einar, she considers Duscha a good friend by sheer virtue of their similarities, and he's by far the only other Warrior of Light she trusts completely unsupervised around her research papers. They can usually be found in a corner together talking intensely about their tomes.
- Syhrwyda Maetityrbwyn: Fleuriri and Syhrwyda work well with each other, having similar histories in working with arcanima and studying in Sharlayan. Lately, it seems like Syhrwyda's been trying to coax Fleuriri's tastebuds into having opinions on different foods...

A former man of the cloth and son of a minor branch of House Haillenarte, who left the church and Ishgard itself after his youngest brother was executed. Though he fought tooth and nail against the accusations, Ishgard and her "justice" failed him, and permanently damaged the way he would see his home.Theo grew up as an orphan of the Brume, tending to his younger sister Euphemie and a handful of other street rats as they struggled to survive Ishgard's frozen alleys. Their salvation came in the form of Adelelmus and Noeloix de Haillenarte, who adopted several Brume misfits and gave them a proper, loving home. Though they were Haillenarte in title, the family went nearly exclusively by the surname Sauveterre. The five Sauveterre children spent the rest of their childhood in peace, learning etiquette and attending school, and in their free time sneaking out to an abandoned church down closer to the Brume.Things changed with the advent of the youngest son, Benezet, turning nineteen. There was plenty of dissent among the highborn over the inclusion of five commoners into the noble house for well over a decade. But the final straw was when Benezet was caught fighting a son of House Dzemael for mistreating a child from the Brume. Seizing the opportunity, a plan to convict Benezet over a false accusation of heresy was set into motion: ridding the Pillars of one more sewer rat in a place he did not deserve and tarnishing House Haillenarte's reputation even further. Upon hearing the news, Theo left Ishgard with the belief that he'd never come home again.As of post-Endwalker, Theo has returned to being an ordinary traveler granting succor to those who need it. He and Miro have been crossing through Ilsabard to aid the lands affected by the Final Days.The Warrior of Light with the most stress-caused gray hairs. What lies in his soul is devotion.

He's easily startled and will be the first to panic in times of trouble, but at least it means he'll catch significant details the others might overlook because he's constantly looking for things that'll go wrong.Protector of the flock. Though he was raised in war-torn Ishgard and was once a Halonic clergyman, Theo has no love for violence. Even so, if his loved ones are in trouble he's more than willing and able to fight to protect them.

- Height: Short for his age at 6'4".- Physique: Has a fair bit of muscle as a teenager from sword training, but lost most of it when he turned his focus to conjury. Rather than the elegance that other Elezen tend to exude, Theo's long limbs and nervous disposition renders him awkward and gangly.- Features: Baby faced. There is absolutely nothing intimidating about his appearance.- Hair: Naturally a warm chocolate brown in colour, neatly trimmed and feathery. As of the end of the Dragonsong War, he's started dyeing a honey yellow ombre at the ends, in a way to honor his brother's memory.- Eyes: Emerald green.

- Voice:- Other: The scar on his forehead was earned on the Steps of Faith during the fight against Nidhogg. He looks younger than he really is. Etymology


Theodaux is a mashup of Theodore ("god-given, gift from god") and the Elezen name suffix -daux.Valerian is a pink-white flowering plant and medicinal herb. “In medieval Sweden, it was sometimes placed in the wedding clothes of the groom to ward off the ‘envy’ of the elves.” It’s also a cat attractant like catnip. Valerian itself, as a word, comes from Valeria and the Latin verb valere, meaning “to be strong, healthy.”Sauveterre is a French surname from sauve ("safe") and terre ("land").

Family

- Adelelmus de Haillenarte (father): Estimated to be maybe a fifth cousin a few times removed from Count Haillenarte. Because of the distance between their branch and the current head of House Haillenarte, the family normally goes by Noeloix's surname, Sauveterre, which is a lot less intimidating to the lowborn... A bold man whose confidence and strength were both an inspiration and a bane for Theodaux, who felt like he didn't quite deserve to be his son.
- Noeloix de Sauveterre (father): Noeloix was once a pastor who spent most of his days tending to the children of the Brume when no one else would. Born to a very poor noble house on the verge of collapse before Adelelmus swooped in and saved them. A compassionate and jolly man who Theo takes after most.
- Lionnellais de Haillenarte (younger brother): Two years younger than Theo, though he looks like the older brother. A Temple Knight popular among the swooning youths of Ishgard for his dashing looks and genuinely kind and courageous personality. His sense of chivalry made Theo's departure a betrayal, but also meant he couldn't raise complaints.
- Euphemie de Haillenarte (younger sister): Four years younger than Theo. Theo's sister is a gentle, albeit naive girl who loves chocobos and raised one personally herself—Theo's mount, Éclair. Of the five adopted Haillenarte children, only Euphemie is related to Theo by blood, so despite her carefree temperment she's the most bold in telling him off.
- Benezet de Haillenarte (younger brother, deceased): Five years younger than Theo, and killed when he was just nineteen summers old. A cheerful and bright young man with a strong sense of justice who would have had a good future at the Skysteel Manufactory if things had gone differently.
- Maisie de Haillenarte (younger sister): Eight years younger than Theo. The baby of the bunch, now happily married. The most down-to-earth of the five siblings, and the least likely to hold a grudge. Though she's not pleased about Theodaux running away from Ishgard, she's grateful that he's safe and that he returned home in time to meet his first niece.
- Benoite de Haillenarte (niece): The daughter of Maisie and her husband. Named for their lost brother. Her aunts and uncles affectionately call her a little spriggan.

Friends

- Lumelle de Lipine: When Theo met Lumelle (for a second time) during A Realm Reborn, she was the same age that Maisie was when he saw her last. Lumelle's own Ishgardian descent meant that Theo immediately locked onto her as yet another paladin he needed to smother-mother at all costs.
- Elwin de Lipine: The Lipine siblings are a buy-one-get-one-free package, and obviously Theo would never turn down the opportunity to care for another youngling. Between the Lipine kids, Lunya, Majj, and Nyneve, it's a miracle that Theo hasn't sprouted a full head of gray hair by Shadowbringers.
- A'dewah Tia: As the resident Holy-spammers of their respective Free Companies, Theo and Dewah spend a lot of time helping the other patch up wounds and being a mother hen to their companions. Their similar personalities on top of their shared duties means the two are good friends and Theo understands Dewah's anxieties greatly—the one place their similarities sharply diverge is just Dewah being an introvert and Theo being a noisy extrovert who will babble enough for both of them.

Once a member of Gridania's Hearers, a woman named Tala Mayari left her forest home at the end of the 6th Astral Era to protect her home and Eorzea as a whole. She never returned.Ahnji—who is the true Tala Mayari—was born to a traditional clan of Keepers in a small settlement outside of Gridania, and left with her father shortly before her first nameday. When it became apparent to her father that he'd actually taken a daughter with him, he brought her back to the clan to stay with her mother. At this point she was given the name Tala and spent the rest of her childhood with her sisters and mothers. Frequently touted as "relationship ideals" by their peers. While Tala's exuberance caused a lot of trouble, Ahnji was always just one or two steps behind, ready to fish her out of it.

He did so with great speed, to the joy of his creators, and eventually enlisted in the military upon regaining his strength. He rose through the ranks quickly with no word from his family, certain that achieving greater glories would remind them of him, but soon enough his skill with magitek caught the eyes of others.It took great convincing for his legion to part with Seven, whose strength and battle capabilities were greatly admired among his comrades. But Seven himself wanted to work more with magitek beyond the simple use of them, and the transfer went through. He has mutton chops and yes he could grow the rest of the beard if he wanted to, but you don't want to see that, he promises.- Hair: Steel gray and naturally straight, but uses no small amount of gel to slick it up every day. Whether or not his hair has always been gray is a question no one knows the answer to—not even Mimi, who says his hair was already like that when she first met him.- Eyes: Steel gray. They're a little wide-set and just a tad smaller than the average Lalafell's. You can never pinpoint exactly what he's thinking, but there tends to be a hint of mischief to them.

While he tries to be an optimist, he's unusually clingy and rather despises Gridania.Growing up, Majj knew nothing but the life of a poacher, having been taken from his mother and sisters before he had even seen his first summer. Majj is from majjistral, which is Maltese for “mistral.” A mistral is a type of strong, cold wind that “blows through the Rhône valley and southern France into the Mediterranean, mainly in winter.”His name just means “wind wind”. I'm not joking.

1. a criticizing term for someone who’s emotional over issues such as poverty and the environment. The kind of name you wouldn’t suspect someone who’s planning an assassination to have.
2. bleeding heart flowers (lamprocapnos spectabilis), which are a bright fuchsia-pink.
3. Luzon bleeding-hearts - a species of ground dove that are famous for their bright red feathers on their chest, which looks like they’re literally bleeding from their hearts.

A renown polyglot and grandmistress of magic. Myrrh Mistral has seen much in her centuries of living and traveling all across the globe, but she has not once lost her desire to do good nor her jovial nature.Myrrh's recorded history begins in Sharlayan, where she was enlisted into the ranks of their scholars and taught several languages at the Studium. When the Sharlayans crossed the sea to Dravania, Myrrh was among them, and she was counted among the founding members of the outpost that would later become the official Sharlayan colony. Her ability to speak over a dozen languages fluently made her very popular among the foreign students that began to flock in droves, though they never ceased to be baffled by how she never seemed to age.With the evacument of the Sharlayan colony, Myrrh found herself a wanderer once more. This time, her interest in the tunnels below the Black Shroud would lead her to Gridania, where she would encounter Majj, the Keeper boy she would adopt as her son. While Myrrh didn't quite know how to be a mother, she loved Majj dearly and it was for his own safety that she left him in the care of her old friend, Matoya, before she went to Carteneau to aid Archon Louisoix.Myrrh disappeared on Carteneau not through Louisoix's time magic but by her own ancient spell which flung her all the way back to Dalmasca. The history that isn't written hides this: she was something rightfully trapped in the depths of the Necrohol of Mullonde that escaped when someone dug where they weren't supposed to. Whatever happened after that is a story that only Myrrh knows, and so long as she has it her way it will stay like that.As of post-Endwalker, Myrrh has returned to Dravania with Y'shtola and is spending most of her time between Matoya's Cave and tearing through books in the Great Gubal Library. The Studium's trying to convince her to come back and be a lecturer again, but she says she got bored of that a century or so ago and has no intention of putting herself any further from her son or any of her students. She's probably the main reason why Matoya hasn't come busting down Thaumazein demanding justice for the fall of the Antitower.The Warrior of Light that's the most unreliable narrator. It's what led to her babying Majj so much—even after raising him for a decade he was still equivalent to an infant in her eyes. She has long, strong legs that don't really do anything for her in combat but lend to her instinctive stomping when she senses danger.- Features: Unlike Mimi, who has distinctly leporine feet, Myrrh stands flat on the ground. She does, however, have a tufted rabbit tail and sharp incisors. She also has thick eyebrows. Her ears are very long and slender without much fluff to them.- Hair: Baby pink. - Voice: Has a thick, unidentifiable accent which has her lean heavily on h's. Having been a scholar for many, many years, Myrrh speaks with a broader vocabulary than most and has been known to accidentally use completely archaic grammar structures and words. Her voice is rich and deep in sound and she speaks with a musical lilt.- Other: Myrrh is less of a Viera and more of an ancient eldritch horror with many, many eyes stuffed into a Viera-shaped cannister. The de facto leader of «lode»'s Twelvesblades. Einar's been a wanderer for a long, long time.Born to a family of politicians in the Royal City of Rabanastre, he had a happy early childhood and spent most of his days listening to his mother tell him stories of the world outside of the city. He was just old enough to have hazy memories of Dalmasca's fall and its subsequent annexation by the Garlean Empire. His father turned out to be supplying the Empire with information and was quick to leave his family in the dust. In the following upheaval, his mother did everything in her power to ensure he and his sister would survive the imperial conquest, including selling most of the family's belongings and retreating into the slums, where they were less likely to attract unwanted attention. The lone heirloom that did not go sold was a set of gold jewelry that had been passed down between the generations of the Yoyvli family's summoners.For the next few years, Einar and his sister kept their heads down in their new home. The change of power in Dalmasca did not go over pleasantly, but things were alright in their too-small and too-cramped house. Things changed when the Garleans silently introduced a new disease in the slums and both Efraima and Juvya fell ill. Einar took on a courier job for the Garleans to make coin at the young age of 10 summers, but he never made enough to have them treated (or perhaps there wasn't a treatment and the Garleans knew this) and he was left alone on the streets before he was 12 years old.With nothing left for him in Rabanastre, he stole away on an airship bound for Thavnair, where he was given work assisting a group of traveling performers. His travels eventually took him all the way to the Sharlayan colony in Dravania, where he picked up the art of arcanima and became a field researcher for their scholars until the city was abandoned.On the road once more with the exodus of the colony, Einar was the very first of those titled "adventurers" to find and offer aid to Louisoix, and for that he was considered to be the one in charge of those who would come after.As of post-Endwalker, Einar's returned to Dalmasca to help Lente's Tears. Einar comes from the Old Norse name Einarr, using “ein” (one, alone) and “arr” (warrior). It shares the same roots as einherjar, the slain warriors in Valhalla.The surname he currently uses, Howl, comes from an epithet: Einar of the Storm’s Howl. It currently doesn’t have any meaning, I just thought it sounded cool, though you could argue that some parts of his relationship with Fleuriri mirror Howl and Sophie's in Howl's Moving Castle.His former surname is Yoyvli, which was taken from some point of the Jubilee (biblical) wikipedia entry and has something to do with horns and shouting with joy, which goes well with him being a summoner.

Overly enthusiastic. Tala's easy to excite and hard to calm down once she gets fixated on something. It's also next to impossible to get her to sit still—at best you can get her fidgeting in her seat or intensely bouncing her right leg.Loud and proud. You'd think Tala and Majj would be best pals given their similar personalities, but you couldn't be further from the truth for one reason in particular—she loves Gridania and was utterly devoted to her home even before she lost her memories, and she can't even begin to fathom why Majj hates it so much.Can't lie to save her life. Even if Tala didn't think lying is bad, she wouldn't be able to make any on her own. Her physical tells run rampant when she tries—her tail curls up, she looks away, she fidgets with her hands, and she starts to stammer.

Graceful in her element. Saying she's "a bit" of a klutz is an understatement. Tala could manage to trip over air if you gave her the opportunity to, and she has many scrapes and bruises to prove it. Her eyebrows are distinctly big and bushy, as is her tail. Interestingly, she has the fanged grin typical to Keepers.- Hair: Coffee brown, but if you knew her before the Calamity you'd know she spent most of her life dyeing it blond. It's straight and she typically wears some kind of braid with it, but most recently has trimmed it the shortest it's ever been.- Eyes: Possessing the most striking eyes of the FC next to Lunya, Tala's are electric-blue and her eyelashes are very thick, and when she smiles they scrunch into crescents. She has the distinct cat-like pupils that mark her as a Seeker of the Sun, just like her dad.

Etymology


Tala and Mayari are the Filipino goddesses of the star and moon respsectively.Ahnji is a corruption of “angie,” a nickname for “angel,” and in lore is a mashup of Real-Ahnji’s parents, Ahra and Rhenji. If we pretend for one hot second that it’s a proper Korean name, the hanja would be an (安, peace) and ji (知, to know). This name comes from when Tala used to be my WHM OC.

A refugee from the Far East. Though Kotone's upbringing was humble, her bloodline is not—her maternal bloodline can be traced through generations of samurai and her paternal grandmother was once the famed songbird of Hingashi, Mikoto Kyomei, descended from generation after generation of performers. Mikoto was wed to a high-ranking Hingan lord, but she fell in love with one of their entertainers and the two eloped across the Ruby Sea to Hingashi, ending the Kyomei family's long line of high esteem within their homeland. She took with her all her family's knowledge of the performing arts and would pass it down to her own granddaughters, but Kotone had no big dreams of her own with the Garlean occupation of Doma untli the failed revolts at the start of the 6th Astral Era.Desperate to protect their daughters from the Garleans bringing their foot down harder on the commonfolk, Kotone's parents had her and her younger sister Honoka flee from Othard with Lady Yugiri. As the only other Au Ri besides Yugiri herself in the group of refugees, the sisters hid their horns and scales and cowered behind their guardian as she guided them across the sea and eventually Revenant's Toll.Though initially nervous about everything in Eorzea, Kotone found a way to make herself useful—hunting around the Toll with her bow. Her work in patrolling her new home earned her the gratitude of both the Adventurer's Guild and the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, and it was within just a moon that she found herself dining with the Warriors of Light themselves during mealtimes and even befriending them. When word got out of the bloody banquet in Ul'dah, Kotone desired to do anything she could to help, and she would soon get her chance when she unearthed her own Crystal of Light and both the Echo and Hydaelyn's Blessing sprung forth from within her.As of post-Endwalker, Kotone is back with her family in Doma and helping them rebuild their old farm. Wallflower. Growing up under an imperial regime where you don't want to stand out least you get put down or taken away led to this. Kotone is shy and terribly anxious about saying the wrong thing at the wrong time.Almost a pacifist. You'd normally expect someone as meek as Kotone to be unable to hurt a fly, but she grew up clawing her way through the Yanxian wilds to hunt and has seen the oppression her countrymen face firsthand. If she needs to survive or to protect her loved ones she won't hesitate to put an arrow or three into anything.Scapegoats herself. Kotone has a big problem with guilt and shame and taking the blame for everything that goes wrong. Her father and grandmother getting captured after she fled to Eorzea with Yugiri? Her fault. On multiple fronts. Her impossibly sharp hearing means she'll notice enemies approaching before everyone else, but it also means she's incredibly sensitive to sudden loud noises. She's also quite good at reading people, but is a little too shy to confront anyone herself and if she sees there's a problem she's more likely to get Lunya or Theo to handle things.Constantly second-guessing. - Height: 4'8.- Physique: Slender but not skinny. Her upper arms are surprisingly well-toned, which can be credited to her years of archery experience.- Features: Her face is very round. Her eyebrows are rather thin and awkwardly shaped. She's too scared to do anything to them and is used to hiding them with her bangs. She has wide, flat fin-shaped horns and ivory scales over her body.- Hair: While it's easily mistaken for being black, her hair is actually dark violet with gray tips at the end. While she kept it long throughout her teenage years, she chopped it up to her chin following the events of Patch 4.3. It's straight and thick.- Eyes: Raven black with gray limbal rings. Unlike her cousin Hanami, Kotone's limbal rings aren't brilliantly luminous in the dark, though there's still just a hint of light in them.

Kotone comes from koto 琴 (koto/harp) and ne 音 (sound).Kyomei (共鳴) means "resonance" in Japanese.Her true surname, Naeuri, is a lore-canon name used by Doman farmers. The Raen name lore post says it literally means “seedling seller.”Lore notes:

Family

- Hibiki Naeuri (father): A towering figure of a man who's actually just a giant teddy bear. He gets emotional over rice planting season and perhaps spoils his daughters too much.
- Kanon Naeuri (mother): Kanon looks small and demure, but she's really the one you have to watch out for between Kotone's parents. She was once part of the Yumishi clan and served Doma Castle as an archer, but very happily gave up her clan name to become a farmer when she fell in love with Hibiki. She taught Kotone everything she knows about archery and hunting. She's cousins with Shomi Hagane, mother of Hanami Hagane, but Kanon herself is more similar in personality to Shomi's wife Maki.
- Honoka Naeuri (younger sister): Kotone's little sister. Honoka is, by all definitions, a brat and the Eorzean equivalent of a nihilistic gen-Z kid. Wise beyond her years and incredibly rude, with a particular love for harassing H'lios over his failure to flirt with her sister.
- Mikoto Naeuri (paternal grandmother): The once famous songbird of Hingashi became a farmer and lived happily with her children out in Yanxia until Garlemald stormed Doma. A troublesome and sassy old lady who cheats at Koi-Koi and has adopted all of her daughter-in-law's relatives as her own.
- Kyoda Naeuri (paternal grandfather, deceased): A humble performer from Hingashi's Maibito clan who impressed Mikoto first by his kindness and second by his dancing abilities. Though he was a dancer by occupation, he also enjoyed playing a variety of instruments and it was initially through his guidance that Kotone started learning how to play her instrument namesake.
- Hanami Hagane (cousin): The Yumishi and Hagane families are sister clans, and as such Kotone and Hanami are actually distant cousins. Eorzeans think this is a very elaborate joke of theirs, but they can trace the exact link to each others' family with ease and Hanami frequently babysat Kotone as a child. If Hanami had it her way, Kotone would never have gotten into the whole Warrior of Light mess, but things are how they are and at the very least the two can look after each other on the battlefield. Kotone has both a deep admiration and great fear of her cousin.
- Haruki Hagane (cousin): Another of Kotone's very-distantly related cousins. Haruki is Kotone's exact opposite, but she admires him regardless and enjoys spending time with him and his son, Munehise, when she can. Haruki's significantly less terrifying than his sister, which helps.

- H'lios Tia (boyfriend): Kotone's first friend in Eorzea. She thought he was sweet from the moment she met him, and his awkward attempts at befriending her were so endearing it was probably inevitable that she'd fall for him.
- A'dewah Tia: By consequence of dating one of Kotone's cousins, A'dewah is Kotone's cousin-in-law whether he likes it or not. Not that he'd have the strength to protest it if Kotone was even brave enough to call him that in the first place. In place of the energetic social butterfly of her youth is a young woman who is both polite and restrained to a fault. For years Melmeltan was but a shadow of who she used to be—she stopped speaking up, made no moves before others did, and smiled much less as her anxiety took control of her life. Coming from a household that was rather conservative with showing emotions, Melmeltan learned how to compartmentalize from an early age but only began to use it in full force when she was the last of her friends left in Sharlayan and unable to put herself out in a place to make more.By 5.3, Melmeltan has reconnected properly with Coco and her friends from the Students and has been making slow but impressive strides in coming out of her shell. On occasion, one of said friends can easily draw her even further out, and a more sarcastic and upbeat Melmeltan can be seen.Rather impressively, she's always been on the side of scatterbrained and will forget information almost as fast as you can give it to her. Etymology


Melmeltan's named for one of my online usernames, based on the Pokemon Meltan and my nickname Melmel and playing with the Japanese honorifix -tan, a cutesy baby talk version of the affectionate -chan.Macha is from her father, Y'macha. Y'macha is pronounced ya-MA-cha, which sounds like amacha (hydrangea sweet tea.)

- **Mimiel Miel** (mother): A botanist renown in Sharlayan for her success in breeding multiple hybrid flowers. Her extended family lives on a Sharlayan outpost in the New World. Quiet and reserved, but full of wisdom.
- **Y'macha Tia ** (father): A son of Sharlayan's Y Tribe and brother of Y'rhul Nunh, Y'shtola's father. Having no personal interest in becoming a nunh, Y'macha happily found love in a fellow botanist and married her. He's a polite and well-educated man but has trouble speaking to his daughter about emotional matters, and has had a bitter relationship with his siblings his whole life.
- **Y'shtola and Y'mhitra Rhul ** (cousins): Being older than Melmeltan and engrossed in their own studies, the daughters of Rhul were never around when she was growing up, so they know next to nothing about each other. He's quick to tease her about little things, but in return Melmeltan will happily spill extremely embarrassing stories about his teenage years at the Baldesion Headquarters to anyone who will listen (particularly Lunya, G'raha's wife.)

It was only through the mercy of some of the older urchin children that Jijirusa survived—they took him under their wing and protected him, teaching him what he needed to know to survive life in Ul'dah's slums after giving him a new name. When Lunya—still known as Yeyema—arrived in Ul'dah, Sirius helped her escape her first failed pickpocketing attempt, becoming her protector in the process as the two banded together with Zaya Qestir and Valdis Otoel. It was also Sirius who managed to free her from Susuna's employ.When Lunya began to take job requests at the Adventurers' Guild after the Calamity, Sirius initially came along with her—but his fighting days came to an end when a job at Nophica's Well went wrong. Lunya instead hired him as a retainer, and today he operates as the head of her household in the Lavender Beds.Back in their days on the streets of Ul'dah, Sirius was known jokingly as "Menphina's loyal hound" for his wine red eyes and devotion to little Yeyema. The title fell out of use immediately after the Calamity.

Sirius tends to look sullen and snappish, but he's a hard worker and cares deeply for his found family. The only other person capable of doing this with her without losing a limb for their efforts would be Hanami, who is equally grumpy.
